It's nearing the deadline for submission of entries for the Steemcleaners' Avatar Design Contest and I still hadn't come up with an avatar design yet. I've been joining design contests lately and was really having fun that I thought of also joining this one.
Scanning through the multiple entries that were submitted, I decided to try something a bit different since most of the entries already use sharks, octopus and other sea creatures in their designs.
So...
I thought , why not create a kingfisher avatar?
Although kingfishers are not sea creatures, they spend most of their time hunting for food by the sea, always on the lookout for some fish that are swimming on shallow waters. In Steemit, those 'fish' are the ones who often spam and plagiarize other authors' blog posts. I think, it's the same as being 'shallow'.
Anyway, on to the design process..
I wanted to make use of the downvote symbol for the face. The arrow down is just perfect for frowning brows.
I didn't want to make a friendly-looking avatar as Steemcleaners are merciless on spammers and plagiarizers!
Then, I added the Steem symbol and eyes to complete the head part.
Now, for the wings, I tried to incorporate the handgloves to represent the tough cleaning job that Steemcleaners do on Steemit.
After that, I spent 70% of the time on deciding what color combination to use. This is the hardest part for me, as always. I also did some distortion on some parts like the wings and the beak.
And that's it! My Kingfisher Steemcleaner avatar design.
Again, I'm no expert in graphic design but this is the best that I can offer you, so far. :D
