I've been digging around all day today looking for historical rates related to VESTS and their equivalent value in Steem that day. SteemDB.com tracks this value, but it's missed a couple days and doesn't have any data recorded before August of 2016. So, after a suggestion from @netuoso in chat, reading an article by @timcliff, and tapping into @furion's awesome SteemData.com, I was finally able to find a way to actually estimate these values for almost every day.
Day-by-day historical breakdown of VESTS/STEEM
This data was derived from analyzing every fill_vesting_withdraw operation on the Steem blockchain and determining the rate at which each user was able to power down that day. It's not a perfect value obviously and there are variations for many different reasons.
The numeric value for each data is the steem_per_vest (not m vest), so if you see a curation reward that gave 387 VESTS on June 9th, you could look it up in the list to see how much STEEM that was equal to (and thus USD or whatever currency). If you want the steem_per_mvest value that many block explorers show, simply multiple the number by a million.
It's a good starting point for someone looking for this data. Listed below is every day since Steem launched and it's corresponding value as found within the data. The data is in CSV format, so if you were to save it into a file called mvests.csv, you'd be able to open it in Excel or Google sheets.
