Steem platform is an amazing place where one can earn some profit by writing good posts and curating others posts and comments.
You get author reward when your posts and comment are upvoted by other users and you receive curation reward if you upvote others.
So, the upvoting is the main thing. It decides the quantum of payout of each post and comment. You have 100% voting power, 20% of which replenish In 24 hours. So, you can vote roughly 10 to 12 posts with your hundred percent voting power. With each upvote, voting power depletes. If someone has enough SP then he can divide his voting power and can upvote many posts. Suppose, you have 10000 SP, which 100% upvote at 100% voting power is $1. You can upvote with 20% voting power to 50 to 60 people per day and this number will double if you upvote with 10 voting power. But if you have just 50 SP or less, your upvote will yield almost nothing.
Payout of less than $0.02 is considered dust it yields nothing for the post or comment. I have seen a habit of some people. They upvote comments with insignificant value or without having enough SP required to make comments profitable. Suppose, your upvote with 100% VP on a comment shows potential payout of $0.01, will it benefit the user who received such upvote on the comment? This upvote will also be useless for you. You don't have a chance to receive fine curation reward for this.
So, what should one do if he don't have enough SP to make a comment profitable?
In this case it is advisable that he should upvote the post of the person whose comment you liked. It can help him to make his post profitable and your voting power will not be wasted. If you have enough SP but you upvote with the insignificant voting power, then also comment will become unprofitable. So, you must adjust your voting power in such way that the potential payout of the post may not remain less than $0.02. If it is not possible, just upvote the post instead of the comment of the person whose comment you liked.
I have seen it some people upvote a post accidently with higher voting power and when they realize that they have done wrong, they Unvote the vote and recast their vote later. But it doesn't change anything. If you have cast a vote, readjusting voting power will not work for you because it will also reduce your voting power. So, why should you lose your voting power two times for a single vote?
Some people are very generous. They upvote people till their voting power reaches to the point where any further upvote becomes dust. What is the benefit of this generosity if your vote becomes useless? So, normally one should not upvote further if one's voting power reaches down to 85%. You can upvote later if you like.
So, my dear steemian friends! Be careful about your voting power. There is no use of wasting of your voting power. Everyone is here for earning something š°. You should not let your VP to be dust. Please use your VP wisely. šššššššš šššššššš šššššššš
