I post was made by @destinysaid some days ago and in that post he was telling Steemians how he forgot to give feed back on a contest he organized. I advised him by commenting that he should start making use of a TO-DO list.
From that post I realized so many Steemians might not be used to working with a TO-DO list. In this post I will be sharing with you the importance of TO-DO list.
Everyday we have a lot of task to do, it can be in the office, at home, business places, everyday we want to research on things, we have projects we are working on, we have tons of ideas to put up here on Steemit. Etc, but one thing is certain when we keep all these activities in our memory alone we tend to forget about 30% of things we should do for the day, that is why to-do list is very important in our day to day activities.
Importance of TO-DO list
It helps you Prioritize: Making a to-do list is good but prioritizing them is very important. It ensures that you focus more on the important items on the list avoiding the less important ones, the less important ones might be the task you love doing or find easily to do. Once you have several things to do set your priorities right and pick the important ones first.
With to-do list you don't forget things: Having a to do list helps you remember when things need to be done. You might have a very good memory but if you have several things to do it still won't take all, you will still need a more efficient tool to put things in order.
A to-do list helps you track your work progress: with a TO-DO list you can easily track your work progress, it helps you mark off an already done task. It gives you an assurance that you have accomplished something for the day and on the other side you are awakened if you didn't do much for the day.
It makes you accountable: The moment you write the list of things you want to do, you are holding yourself accountable for those task, when it is written you are telling yourself "these are the things I will do today." You are now accountable to yourself.
It creates order: A to-do list is a very good way of organising things you want to do for the day, if the projects are bigger you break it into bits making the work easier and more organized. It does not only create order, it also gives you strategy to easily get things done.
It helps you to identify undone task: With your to-do list, task can easily be carried over to the next day. It is another way of preparing the next day's to-do list, by going through today's to-do list and moving it over to the next day's list.
It helps you delegate task: To do list helps you in delegating task to others, when you have alot on your list and you want to meet up with your target, you can delegate task to a family member or you hire someone to help with the work.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR TO-DO LIST MORE EFFECTIVE
Sometimes writing things down brings the feeling of already accomplished task. Most people do their to-do list quite alright but not all have been able to do up to 70% of items listed. There are things that can be done to make a to-do list very effective.
1. Make your to-do list shorter by putting down the most important ones first, by so doing the work flow will go on well, it is better than writing too many things and not doing most of them.
2. Move the remaining task to the next day. Try as much as possible to keep your to-do list simple, avoid adding some other task when the ones on the list are not done yet.
3. Prepare your to-do list before the day of the task, Do not be in a hurry when preparing your to-do list. This will give time for prioritisation.
4. Use the right tool. This is very important, for instance using a phone for to-do list cannot be as effective as using pen and paper. Stick cards is also another good one, if you don't want to always open your to-do book, write on stick cards and stick it on the wall or anywhere you can always see it.
