see i think this is how a lot of 'on the side' projects are funded currently but i think over time maybe that will change to blockchain powered projects, where you can build useful services that are distributed and add value but also have a financial return to for pro features..
free service, the costs of the project (server, Google Geolocation API, maintenance, bug fixing, new features...) are financed through Ads.
