so the majority of the computer technology we see in the world often runs on chip technology that has been made by a handful of companies based in the countries we would often class as 'superpowers' -- US, UK (at a stretch) -- those technologies are often designed and produced by major players like intel, amd, pi foundations (all different chips in different ways)
This is first time i've seen a micro processor (using existing open source libraries) built in india -- maybe we will start to see more of that in the years to come, dedicated chips specific from that country, not exporting those parts, dedicated attacks on foreign chipsets -- either way, congrats to the team in india that pulled this together to produce indias first microprocessor!
admittly it's 180nm and not super stacked like a 20nm process but that's just down to the fabrication facilities on offer no doubt, i'm sure over time this will ramp up as more investment and companies flood into this area.
