I think graduating the 'money mirage' is a learning curve for every new steemer.
I think the life of a steemer goes like this:

Over-hyped about the posibilities

Trying to get upvoted (for money)

The dissapointment of nobody voting

Rage-quitting

Reconsidering it

Learning your lesson

Start being an asset to this community
