In Punta Cana you can not only lounging, but also book routes through the hotel. I decided to do a tour with an organized van one day.
During the organized tour I got an insight into a local school. From the outside she looked relatively unspectacular

The students all wore the same uniform and did not see anything but Happy. I can already imagine how one has to feel, as entertainment for tourists.
Our guide with information about the system in school
There is compulsory education, which is not always and everywhere guaranteed. There are still rural areas where there is no school or the next school for the children is too far to get there.
The public schools are free for the children. Those who can afford what many Dominicans can not send their children not in the state school, but on a privately owned "colegio". Many private schools are run by nuns or private organizations. The monthly costs and of course the training vary from the price.
The level of education of teaching staff in state schools can not be compared with those in Europe. The illiteracy rate is officially around 11% of the population.
I had the feeling that we had made a stopover at school only for donations. We could not really find out or talk to the students. In my next report in Punta Cana, I'll give you a glimpse of a coffee plantation.

In Punta Cana kann man nicht nur Faulenzen, sondern auch Routen über das Hotel buchen. Ich entschied mich an einem Tag eine Tour mit einem organisierten Van vorzunehmen.
Bei der organisierten Tour bekam ich einen Einblick in eine Schule vor Ort. Von außen sah sie relativ unspektakulär aus.

Die Schüler trugen alle die gleiche Uniform und sahen alles andere als Happy aus uns zu sehen . Ich kann mir schon vorstellen wie man sich fühlen muss, als schaubelustigung für Touristen herzuhalten.

Es besteht allgemeine Schulpflicht, die jedoch nicht immer und überall gewährleistet ist. Noch immer gibt es ländliche Gegenden, in denen es keine Schule gibt oder die nächste Schule für die Kinder zu weit weg ist um dahin zu kommen.
Die staatlichen Schulen sind für die Kinder kostenlos. Wer es sich leisten kann, was viele Dominikaner nicht können, schickt seine Kinder nicht in die staatliche Schule, sondern auf ein privat geführtes "colegio".Viele Privatschulen werden von Nonnen oder privaten Organisationen gefürt. Die monatlichen Kosten und natürlich auch die Ausbildung variieren vom Preis her.
Der Bildungsgrad des Lehrpersonals an staatlichen Schulen kann nicht mit demjenigen in Europa verglichen werden. Die Analphabetenrate liegt offiziell bei rund 11% der Bevölkerung.
Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass wir nur aus Spenden zwecke den Zwischenstopp in der Schule gemacht hatten. Wirklich was erfahren oder mit den Schülern sprechen konnten wir nicht. In meinem nächsten Bericht in Punta Cana gebe ich euch einen Einblick über eine Kaffee Plantage.
