It was my 3 week Steemit anniversary yesterday. I can't believe it's only been 3 weeks! When I look back at my first week I wish I had more sense and explored the platform a bit better - not that I knew what to search for anyway but still! I wasted 4 days!
So here is my top 5 - I wish I knew things.
.1. Save that introduceyourself post until you've had a feel of what Steemit is all about. People here like to share SHARE. This is not Twitter where your letters are capped. Nor is it Facebook where things posted are most often at face value or flippant. Here on Steemit, you gotta be prepared to write. The more words the better sometimes. With pictures is a plus. Everyone gets to use the tag 'introduceyourself' once.. well maybe twice.. or three times.. Just don't get busted.
.2. Join a group. My stats exploded soon after I joined Team Australia. As you'll see here on the 18th of June, I added 72 people. That was the day I joined & added all Team Australia members. And if you look at my followers list you'll see I get quite a few new followers a day and I like to think that has something to do with me joining Team Australia. Personally I check # teamaustralia quite often more than any other tags or subjects, I'm sure there's plenty out there who do the same.
TeamAustralia (or any of the Steem Wars Teams) and MinnowSupport are my top groups to join and the only two groups I've joined.
.3. Don't just join a group PARTICIPATE in it. Participation is key. You gotta be in it to win it. If you're not posting or at least commenting then people won't know who you are, if people don't know who you are yet, you better be whipping out killer posts to get your audience because one thing I've noticed is we all build our followers and your tightest peeps will always be the ones you can depend on to click that up vote button. And how do you successfully build your loyal followers base? You give back some of that loyalty, be a human being, be nice and get to know people.
.4. For the love of god, DO NOT USE YOUR STEEM to do @randowhale . Use your SBD for old mate rando. I was very lucky early on to be given STEEM and I gave it to rando!!. STEEM is worth more than SBD. STEEM is what Living Room of Satoshi wants in exchange for cash money into your Aussie bank account. STEEM is also what you need to Power Up - and you want to power up.
BTW. @randowhale is a service we can use to upvote our posts by a whale that costs us 2SBD per vote. Whale upvotes are worth heaps. You want a whale to click on your upvote button.
.5. Keep at it. I know you probably left all your Social Media friends behind and you're feeling a bit in the deep end. I ain't gonna lie. There's so much to learn about Steemit but it's worth it. Even if you just follow #2 you've already given yourself a head start. Focus on quality content and make sure that quality content has a nice picture and you're in with a shot. It's too easy to get discouraged here especially when you're new - everything comes in time and that won't come if you give up before you even kicked off.
