These are random notes, not necessarily good ideas or even proper grammar. I'm sure most of these suggestions have been covered previously by others. These are My notes. <3
Editing forever: For example so artists can make a "commission" page and then update it, and it will be their permanent @user/commissions page and they can link to it from everywhere else and keep it up to date. (Last time I checked, posts could not be edited once they were a certain age.)
Long-tail rewards: On that note, I'd like to see posts able to be upvoted and resteemed forever. There's little reason to upvote content over a certain age but it is tricky to see everything worthwhile all at once.
Add the git editor back as an option! Please. :) I'd just gotten to like it.
Preview and editing of post URL during the post creation phase, to allow custom URLs and planning.
Add more post control options as advanced options. Such as max payouts, etc. Whatever Steem/Steemit supports.
Smoother payouts: Offer users the option to "smear" payouts over a week or two, so instead of post rewards like $0.01, $0.01, $10.00, $0.01, it would be something like $2.00, $2.00, $4.00, $2.00 Random rewards make people confused and sometimes crazy, as we've been seeing lately.
Problems on Steemit aren't the whales fault. If you woke up a millionaire one day you wouldn't want to be blamed for all the problems. :D
Burning SD for promotion: I understand reducing the currency supply is vital to keeping both inflation and deflation under control. (many altcoins got this wrong lol) But is there something else that could be done with it? Like donations to charity or something? This might will need conversion to other currencies. Also this is good advertising for Steem/Steemit.
The 24-hour initial period may be too short. I've seen news take a few days to really make the rounds. And sometimes we need a reminder of old news.
There's a bug in the HTML editor/raw editor where it strips out links and discards HTML that it doesn't recognize. (<hr> is a good one to get lost, add it and then switch modes, it'll vanish. The bitcoin image at the bottom kept losing the link, also.)
Edit: How could I forget, Steem needs paper wallets/blank checks/some way to put money onto a public key and hand that and the private key to someone. If there is such a site please post it. I'm in love with https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/ so if can suggest it to them please do so. - I may have a design contest for this soon
Edit2: @bryan-imhoff mentioned the reward change. I was thinking about multiple reward cycles, 7 day, 30 day, and 1 year recurring, with chances to upvote the content during each cycle.

Goes to help a suicidally depressed 5-year-old, poor nerds who heard about Bitcoin in the early days but were broke as heck, and then lastly me. :)
