OK. Wow. What a crazy last 10 days. I went from never hearing of cryptocurrency, much less Steem, to where I can at least explain the broad strokes of how things work here. (maybe please don't test that ). As per my normal obsessive ways, I dove head first without even looking to see if there was a pool. So here we go.
First I won a minor victory this morning. I got a profile picture to work. It's a miracle.
OK. I have to say thank you @wolfje . Without you none of this could be possible. I appreciate it every time I come running to you with a question i couldnt figure out.
@agirlis @onewithnoname @florianthetool a couple of friends that came along for the ride to check it out.
And a couple content creators I've already been impressed by @mindfreak @kingofworms @arthur.grafo
I've been pretty much been reading something nonstop since I got here. I had a huge learning curve to catch up on. I was warned of voting and worth but didn't realize how easy it can be to get caught in the moment. I've recovered but know a few who haven't and think I'm in a decent spot again. It also made it less impulsive to click the upvote when I found where the resteem button was(shhhhh I'm stubborn but don't tell anyone)
I've notice the niches in action. I posted this
https://steemit.com/poem/@branthebuilder/a-new-poem-blessed-be
Yesterday and it is probably one of my favorite poems I've eve written but also posted this
https://steemit.com/life/@branthebuilder/advice-from-a-procrastinator
The day before. The difference being 100 views and ay least 6 upvote. The real life situational stuff seemed to me to get a better view count that a poem covered in imagery. That being said I have seen poetry groups but haven't looked into it much . So my advice, find a niche and stick it out. Don't do like me and write something new everyday for a different tag.... Crap.....
I have noticed alot of ppl either do or are organizers for some give away or another. It was rather nice thank you @godofbit for bearing with this newbie stumbling his say through. From what i can tell there are contests and challenges going on all the time, Even if you don't win, maybe you gain some new followers.
The biggest thing, I guess was, bots and voting. I've been reading pros and cons for each and then had to decide which will it be. For now I have decided to use no bots. I feel it will keep my feeds, at least, filled with the posts I deem as better content. Even if I choose no it seems to me that they are a required necessity. No advice because i don't know.
Oh yeah then there's this money thing. To be perfectly honest, I haven't read too much about it. I decided from the beginning i would be here for the long haul If it all worked out, so no need worrying about something I can't change. That's a decision you have to make for yourself.
I won't touch on bitcoin and market rates because I don't want to show my ignorance. Besides this, little things like networking and comments and resteem are crucial to growth. It's like any media only with a fewer cheats and shortcuts.
