Long ago before any of us were a glint in our mothers eye gold was one of the most sought after commodities on the planet, people slaved and died to get this precious metal out of the ground, and people around the world are still dying today trying to extract gold from the ground.
It is difficult to think that the gold you hold in your hand has cost so many lives, I think that's why they called it a precious metal, gold is as precious to us as the lives it took to get it out of the ground. When you see how the Aztec's Greeks, Egyptians, Spanish and British as well as many other civilisations revered gold and sought to get as much by any means.
Modern day gold mining is a lot easier than it was say 100 or 200 years ago, with all the modern day technoligy and the big mining equipment used to extract the gold from below ground, but gold is quite a scarce commodity and it is getting harder and harder to mine and will one day be to expensive to mine, so one day it will be thats it that's all the gold your going to get, and that day is fast approaching.
The last big gold rush was in American in the California gold rush, which was the last big find which the poor common people could get involved in and try to make there fortune, nowadays governments have put strict rules in place and they want there cut to of the profits.
So the next time you hold gold in your hand think of the effort that went into bringing this metal to you, it is not like going to buy a Big Mac you go in order and in minutes its ready. Gold is and will always be precious and a valuable as if you have it in your hand and own it, it is real and always will be a valued source of wealth, even if the governments of the western world try to make it look like its a relic, ask that to the families who have lost there husband or son, so remember.
