Could Steemit and the STEEM currency upend Facebook, YouTube, and other social media networks? You bet it can! It really comes down to the evolution of technology. Bitcoin radically altered the financial system by solving the double-spend problem via the blockchain. Even now, government agencies are still playing catch-up. For example, how does one even classify bitcoin for tax purposes? These are questions that will continue to dominate social discourse long after the disruptive technology is introduced.
The same trend will likely occur for social media. What really is the point of spending countless hours typing away at your friends when you can do the exact same thing in person? The benefactor is the platform itself, along with the army of corporate advertisers that it attracts. Essentially, the mainstream networks reward slavish behavior with even more slavery -- and the masses sign up for it!
Steemit reverses this ugly trend by rewarding actual, useful content creators. The technology to do this is again the blockchain. What bitcoin did for the monetary system, Steemit can do for social media, perhaps even the internet.
Under this barrage of pressure, I only see e-commerce giant Amazon as the only "FANG" member that will escape the STEEM cleaning!
