Dear Steemit Friends,
Because I constantly talk about Steemit and about the various aspects of the platform and community, I was recently told about a series on Netflix called Black Mirror. I wasn't sure if I should take this as a good or a bad thing, but I decided to check it out anyways.
For those who are not familiar with the series, I think it is definitely worth checking out. The first episode of season 3 does mirror a lot of aspects about this platform and the culture that permeates within it. To give you an idea of what the first episode I watched is about - It is about a world where people's perception about you makes a great deal of difference. The way it relates to Steemit is in the way that that perception is awarded. Its a world controlled by upvotes on virtually everything you do and everything you post.
Each vote has a weight from 1 star to 5 stars which contributes to your overall reputation. The more votes you have and the higher the star rating, the better your life rewards are - these rewards range from better houses, better cars, and better jobs. The quickest way to increase your reputation score is to increase your sphere of influence and secure "whale votes."
Does all this sound familiar?
In the series, there is an epidemic of always putting on a fake face and doing what pleases the community in order to not cause disruption which can result in lower star votes which are the equivalent of downvotes. The imaginary world is a place of false friendships, people pretending to be someone they aren't, and a lot of ass-kissing in order to maintain your reputation score. I'm only through episode 1, but it seems like an interesting series mainly because the main character is beginning to try and break free from this world of being fake.
I definitely think the series is worth checking out for all those hardcore Steemians. You may find it a humorous and enjoyable series to watch while creating your next post.
Below is the Featurette giving you a preview of the episode. Let me know if i should upload the video to dtube
