I think it's safe to say that today is a day to remember in Steemit history. You all know what's happened, I don't think I have to tell you in details. Everyone is blogging about it here and Discord is full of it as well.
Long story short:
- Wallet is separated
- We are getting ads on Steemit
I understand the first one, safety comes first and also understand the other reason that costs must be reduced, I really do.
I also understand that ads bring money, it's a source of income that can help cover the expenses, I really do. I've seen users trying to convince others that having ads is safe as you only use your posting key to login, this way your wallet is safe. True.
It's just that I don't like seeing ads on steem blockchain. It's hard enough to avoid them outside the blockchain, ads are everywhere, you can't access a website without being forced to see ads. Up until now Steemit has been a safe place, ad free I might say, therefore enjoyable. Now it isn't any more.
I've been using various dapps on a daily basis but Steemit was necessary, I guess because of a habit. Now I have to get used to using another dapp so I can do my daily work and I'm going to do it. No one is going to make me watch these ads a hundred times a day.
I truly hope Steemit is going to limit the use of ads and won't get to the point where pop-up windows are killing the joy of using Steemit. I truly hope so. Steemit is a special place not only for me but for thousands of users. Let's not destroy what has been built with hard work!
