Why does the validation process so long?

Hello there,

I appreciate this site so much, but the biggest problem is in my opinion the amount of members.

A lot of Users loose their interest if it takes half a week to register here on STEEMIT.

So there is my question: Why does the validation process so long and how can we improve it?
