After being asked quite a few times about the "featured" placing of my Steem Vision post yesterday, I figured it probably should be explained a bit.
Some of you may have noticed that your feed was a bit different on the steemit.com interface...
What is going on?
When you are in your feed you may spot some posts that seem to be "pinned" there at the top and labeled "featured," as you can see in the photo above.
This is a new feature that the Steemit team had been working on, and I was asked if they could test it out on my Steem Vision post. I have been reporting back a few glitches that I noticed in return.
This is ONLY on the steemit.com interface
What will it be used for?
Well, that depends I guess on what Steemit Inc decides to do with it... but my assumptions are:
Share @steemitblog updates or information (which you can see was done today)
Communicate important changes (i.e. the wallet change we experienced a few weeks ago)
Maybe share posts or initiatives they think are beneficial for the ecosystem?
They may even sell the space in the future, who knows.
There are many things it could be used for, the most apparent to me is a more open form of communication with the community.
What if I don't want them there anymore?
Great question! They thought of that ;) ...
Yep, just push that X and they are removed from your feed. Pretty simple, right?
Why was this done?
Well this is just me talking here, but I think it's because the community asked for it. Shocker, I know.
One of the loudest concerns I personally noticed during the last "condenser split" aka The Steemit Wallet update we saw happen was the lack of communication, as well of course how it was communicated.
Even though the team had been communicating about it for weeks on the Steemit Blog, it wasn't "pinned" anywhere that could be seen on mobile devices (Pinned messages do appear on the right hand side of the desktop version).
Because of that many users had no idea the change was coming and were left in a bit of a panic mode when the change happened. There were many asking for Steemit to move a "pinned" style message somewhere that was more visual and hard to miss... and I think we got it now!
So, what do you guys think? Will it be a helpful feature for communication?
Anyways, I hope this quick post cleared some things up. If you have any questions, please let me know!
Much Love,
Justine
