In 2010, three friends visioned and decided they were going to build a water-filtering floating swimming pool in New York for everybody to swim in.
From the desire to swim in a clean and natural river without fear, and without having to travel out of the New York City; these three friends planned and crowd-funded to see their dream of swimming in the New York River comes alive.
They came up with an idea to create a giant filtration system disguised as a pool to the not-so-fresh waters separating Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The plus-shaped pool will provide a clean and safe way for the public to swim in New York’s waters. You can learn more about the Plus Pool by watching the video below
The pool is like a giant strainer dropped into the middle of the river that cleans close to 600,000 gallons of sea water every day to make the waters clean, natural and safe for swimmers.
Below are more images showing the pool design.

IS THE FLOATING POOL IN A RIVER A NEW IDEA?
When I came across the plus pool, I was surprised and marveled at how creative the idea is.
I live in Lagos, and I can say we have one of the dirtiest sea waters. I desire to see a floating pool in the waters of Lagos too.
At first, I thought the idea of having a clean and safe pool in a river or sea was unique and new until I saw this video
Yes, I was surprised too.
The idea was not new, in fact, floating pools were dated back to the early years of the twentieth century.
WHO IS FUNDING THIS INNOVATIVE PROJECT?
Generating the necessary funds for the completion of this architectural project was becoming challenging.
After countless of meetings and presentations to almost every Government department in the City of New York, the team at Plus Pool finally took a bold step.
They turned to the people of the Internet to fund their project and get incentives for being the project backer. The team published a Kickstarter.com campaign ask the public to fund the idea of having a pool in the river.

They will give each backer a tile with his/her name inscribed onto the tile.
On the grand opening of the pool, the backer will have a tile on the pool that his name is inscribed on.
