Dating or engaging in a relationship is not something that you dive into just for the sake of doing it or because you want to. In fact, as long as it has something to do with such a social ritual, the reason varies. Oftentimes, that reason may be as complex as the biological aspects involved in it. But simply speaking, you engage in it because of reasons personal to you, reasons like whether your boyfriend or significant other is Mr. Boyfriend Material or not, among other things. Meaning if he’s the type who’s worth your time and effort. And, perhaps, the right person to invest your entire life and happiness, eventually.
But how would you know if he’s that kind of man? There are surefire ways that will tell if he is or isn’t. And lucky you this is not rocket science you are dealing with.
Below are the 10 signs that say your guy is THE guy.
- The Ringer. If your guy rings you up, whatever the reason or occasion, that means you’re worth the time and effort to talk to whatever it is that he’s doing. Oh, this can be in the form of a text, email, IM, and what-not. As long as it’s something that sort of says “I’m here, and I’m missing you.”
- Self-Imposed Chastity Belt. Have you ever heard of the phrase second virginity? (Or third for that matter?) When my ex and I broke up, I told myself that I’ll be a virgin until the next serious one came along. It did. And guess what? Happily married. You see, not all men have that monkish discipline when it comes to sexual advances purported by girls who’re into them. But there are men who do. And these are the types whom you should cherish.
- Knows About Them Little Things. I’ve got this friend who shared a little secret on how he won his girlfriend’s heart. He performs the little things that his girlfriend appreciates. Like opening the door for her or offering her a seat first at the restaurant before he takes his. Well, you know the drills. If he falls under this category, you’ve got yourself a keeper.
- He Who Cuddles Rocks Her World. This is all about cuddling. In a time where everything is fast-paced, it seems like everyone is on the move. But for He-Who-Cuddles, he will always have that extra time for you. And you bet it’s something he likes to do because that’s one of his ways to show how important you are to him.
- Knows The Dating Game. Going Dutch treat isn’t a bad idea every time you go out on a date. But there should be instances where the guy should be able to shoulder the expenses. In a manner of speaking, this all boils down to one thing: being responsible. If he can take you out to any place and can confidently (in his best effort) treat you like a princess, then he knows what it takes to be responsible. However, beware of those who like to brag about the vastness of their resources. There’s nothing wrong with being wealthy, but bragging should be a no-no in your book.
- Honesty is the Best Policy. Never mind the cliché. We know how exhausted you are of hearing this quote for its banality. You’re not the only one. But for certain, we know you’ll never get tired of being honest with you. Some men are wired to say the truth because that’s their genetic makeup. (We’re serious about that in case you’re wondering.) But there those who have built their own system of principles and consider these as their personal rules to live by.
- The Cutesy-wootsies and Sweetum-Teetums. If you’re thinking that this is about pet names before reaching this part of the sentence, then you guessed right. There’s nothing wrong with that, given that some ladies have the proclivity toward this stuff. If your man is not fazed by it, good for you. And by all means, you better knock yourself out. But if he doesn’t, especially while you’re starting out, it is best you explain to him why you are into that thing. Otherwise, it will show that he is not that interested in that part of you who adore the sweetest things that life has to offer, no matter how little or petty they seem.
- Knows Every Word in Basic Relationships 101. In other words, he knows the no-nos. It’s the usual stuff that anyone should do to maintain a relationship. I.e., you’re not supposed to lie to someone close to you. Or cheat for that matter. Because not knowing is like introducing anti-matter to matter, and matter, in this case, is your relationship. So he ought to know.
- A Walk to Remember. I’m not sure why a man would prefer to hail you a ride home when walking you home is an option, and a better one at that. You see, I’m such a sucker for these things, spending a peripatetic moment with your significant other.
- Communication Is Key. Ladies, men are not perfect beings. You have to understand that. But guys who know what communicating does and how important it is in a relationship, either you’re in dating or at a serious level, knows the key to your happiness.
