Happy Sunday Fellow Steemians,
I wanted to share some information about a project @markrmorrisjr is heading-up. It's called the Minnow Votes Project, and its ultimate goal is to increase minnow visibility and put the power of the vote back into the hands of the people and not the vote bots.
When I first read about this, I was immediately interested. In the few weeks I've been on Steemit, I've seen some really awesome content and I've seen some really not awesome content sitting at the top of the trending feed.
I very quickly learned that the trending feed is the last place I want to look for new and interesting Steemians. In fact, I was pretty bummed about the content I saw on the trending page. I questioned whether or not Steemit is the right place for me, because as I saw it then, if the content on the trending feed is what is popular on Steemit, then I have no reason to stay. Not only am I uninterested in most of the content, but I also don't want to write anything like most of what I see on the trending page. Thankfully, I stuck it out and started browsing under tags to find content I like.
I don't really think that's what the trending page should be though. The trending page shouldn't be the place that current users actively dissuade new users from browsing (I've seen this in posts). Ideally, it should boast the best and brightest content on Steemit at a given time. That's where the Minnow Votes Project enters. It's a simple act of bringing people together to create community and make Steemit better in the process.
If this is something you might be interested in, I highly suggest you check out @markrmorrisjr's initial thoughts here and latest updates on the project here. He does a much better job of explaining the aims and scope of this project than I can do.
This project may not be for you and that's okay, but if it is for you, we're glad to have you join.
Happy Steeming!
