I'm happy to announce that I have ported the steemnotify.me browser extension to Android!
It's getting crowded in here
Get notifications about your steem blogging activity straight to your phone, or in your browser with the extensions.
Get the Android app beta from here and tap on it to install it. Or get the browsers extensions for chrome and firefox. Or get all the things, and be notified like a boss!
Updates
I've done some major hole plugging that was allowing some notifications to slip through the net, and made some server improvements to make the whole system more stable.
And the improvements really show. There was a fairly significant hole in the logic that was seeing people with infrequent notifications (i.e., most of us ;) ) missing out on some or all of them.
And just a reminder, that the notifications only flow while the [app/extension/website] is open. But now being a phone app, you can leave it running in the background and get notifications while ever your phone is on!
What about iPhone??
Apple being Apple, they charge you to create apps ($100!). Unfortunately, I'm broker than a broke thing, so there's no real possibility of me releasing it for iPhone/iPad, unless a fairy steemmother appears and sprinkles me with SBD.
In another sad story, I am going to have to eventually charge even for the Android app, as I need some income to maintain the backend server and database. I'll be looking at a charge of $0.99, and will be looking to incorporate some more features into the app (like some steem account info like voting power/amount, steem price, profile picture, and anything else I can think of stuffing into it :) ). Eventually I'd like to merge a version of my steemfeed.social feed and filters, allowing you to drill down into the crud and find some gems that get lost in the steemit bilge pump that is the "New" feed. ;)
But for the next week or two, it's FREE!
In other news...
The website looks nicer. So if you can't get enough notifications via the app, and multiple browser plugins, you can get them via the website too. And it's good that the website looks better, as that's pretty much how the app looks. Which, let's be honest, isn't the hottest looking thing getting around... but when you gotta get your notifications 24/7 you take em however they come. :)
Fine Print: The database is a cantankerous old horse, and sometimes commits suicide, so if a notification was due to you in the minute or so that it kills itself and then reanimates, it might slip through the net. Next on my list is to harden the fucker up a bit. Also, while the notifications on the phone app work well, the actual phone notifications (vibrate and note in the notification tray) seem to be a bit random. Let me know how it goes on your phone, as I've only tested it on one Android device (my own phone ;) )
And as usual, if there's any problems, or features you'd like to see, let me know in the comments. And please resteem if you like what you see here so that others may enjoy these benefits.
(update: I've noticed on my phone that notifications both in the app and via the phone UI are pretty random when the phone is sleeping/locked. If you've recently looked at the app they are pretty good, but after a while they start randomly reducing. Apologies for this. I'd be interested to hear of others experiences with this type of thing).
