Hey guys, so lately I've been getting a lot of questions basically asking if I still think Steemit is worth investing time and effort into.
My answer to that is still yes, however I will say my enthusiasm for the platform has come down a bit.
As with anything in life you get out of it what you put into it. Also, like any social media platform it's tough to get traction and growth can be slow. This isn't really anything unique to Steemit. I'm in the process of rolling out a new Youtube Channel and it's frustrating when you put a lot of time and effort into creating content and it only gets 6 views or 8 views. Same with starting a new INstagram profile or anything else. It takes a lot of time and effort and hard work and growth is always slow at first so there's really nothing unique about Steemit in that sense.
That said I do have a few minor complaints about Steemit. I think it's not content focused or content driven enough. I feel like there's a lot of creators and very few consumers. I feel like the way to get ahead on Steemit is more about interacting with people and being part of contests and things like that as opposed to creating content. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it's just that I personally wish you could get further creating great content and on Steemit things do have a tend to get lost in the shuffle.
That brings me to another minor complaint which is the search function. The search function on Steemit could definately use some improvement. It's tough to find the type of content that you want to find. I also think Steemit could also use a bit more diverse content.
I will say Steemit has quality content and the community keeps it that way so I think that's a good thing. You're not going to find a lot of spam or other garbage on Steemit and I love that about it. I think partly my complaint is that the content doesn't cater to my interests which really honestly isn't a fair complaint as it's my job to seek out content I want to consume, it's not Steemit's job to be a platform just for me and my enjoyment.
At the end of the day here's my opinion on Steemit and if you should invest your time and energy into it. If you have nothing else going on you really have nothing to lose going on Steemit.
I would also say if you're a content creator, blogger, Vlogger, Youtuber, photographer, artist, etc there is no reason not to use Steemit to repost your content. If you don't your essentially leaving free money on the table. Not only that but Steemit is another way for people to discover your content. In my brief time on Steemit I've found 3-4 great Youtube Entrepreneurs who have channels about business and self improvement and entrepreneurship who I never found on Youtube but found through Steemit so it's another way for people to find your content and what your all about.
Now if you already have some money making ventures going on be it an ecommerce store, tee shirt business, Amazon Merch business, publishing business, etc. I will say you'll probably get further and make more money doing that than you will on Steemit but again there's no reason not to be on Steemit as it's another way to get your contetn or your work out there in front of a new audience.
For me personally Steemit doesn't look like it's going to be a full-time thing for me. I have to in life take into consideration the 80/20 rules and for the brief amount of time I was giving Steemit my all, it wasn't returning the results I would have liked and because I have so much other profitable stuff going on it just doesn't make sense for me to take time away from those profitable and established things to take a risk on something new. That said I am optimistic about the future of Steemit, I plan on continuing to be active and engaged on there. I plan on continuing to be an active and contributing member to the platform but it's just not going to be my main priority.
