Joining Steemit is quite exciting for most people, but at the same time it is a very overwhelming experience for many too. Like I remember when I joined Steemit, I felt a weird pressure on myself for making it big on Steemit right away. Before I move on to giving my message to those just joining Steemit, I would like to share a bit of my story with everyone here so they know the foundation on which my message for the newbies is based.
My husband and I are earning just barely enough to manage our household expenses. My husband does not have a mindset that encourages him to do a job for long so he is mostly in and out of jobs and is looking for ways to earn a good income from online means. About 3 months back, he came across Steemit and believed it would be his big ticket to success and riches so he made an account on it and blogged enthusiastically for a few weeks. He is quite inconsistent with whatever he does so when he didn’t find huge sums of money pouring in like he had imagined, he lost all hope and gave up on the platform.
I am quite the opposite of my husband. Unlike him, I don’t seek instant gratification and pursue delayed gratification instead. Also, I believe great things don’t come easy and to reach the point you want, you first need to put in lots of smart and hard work so I have worked really hard to get to the point I am at right now. I began earning from $100 a month and now I am making about 6 times more than that which is not much if you are based in the West but it is like not-too-bad if you are working from home in Pakistan. So, I’m doing fine. However, with the latest addition of my son’s school fee, the burden has increased but I’m hopeful for better times and I’m doing all in my power and trying t push myself more to earn better.
My husband greatly values my persistence, grit and hardworking nature so he advised me to open an account on Steemit. He told me that if I stay consistent on it, I would be able to earn a decent amount of money in about a year. Although he did not pressurize me directly, I knew he secretly hoped and wished for me to earn hundreds of dollars right away lol. So when I joined Steemit, I somehow felt that pressure and felt a little uneasy in the start.
However, soon I realized that I didn’t really want to blog just for the sake of money. I spent some time analyzing my silence and figured out that I wanted to be heard and wanted to share my experiences, knowledge and findings with people more than I wanted to make money. So I had really joined Steemit to vent out my frustrations, to share my stuff and to build meaningful connections with people and if I earned a little on the side, that would be the cherry on the cake but my real motive was not just to earn money. The minute I realized that I found myself enjoying a lot on Steemit. I was freed of the pressure to create posts that would bring in heaps of money and was liberated of the burden to just interact with the influencers so I could gain their upvotes and earn more.
Instead I focused more on mingling more with like-minded people to build networks and make friends that understand one another and help each other improve. I stopped commenting on blogs I did not understand and instead looked for really like-minded people. It is then that I came across lots of great people who have really helped me grow and improve emotionally and mentally. People like @lightsplasher, @lastminuteman, @reddust, @eco-alex, @ecoinstant and the many amazing people on board the @ecotrain have groomed me so much. Now I love blogging on Steemit and do it happily. Every day, I am more excited to share my insight on something new or old with people here and go through their posts. It is honestly really enjoyable!
So now coming back to my advice for the people who have just posted on the introduceyourself tag, here’s my message for them.
You my friend are amazing the way you are. I request you to please first understand what is it that you want and why you want to join Steemit. Are you seeking a way to earn some extra and more money from it? Or do you just want to be heard? Or are you looking for a platform that helps you make friends? Just find out whatever it is that you want from Steemit and then use the platform accordingly. When you are clear on what you want from the platform, using it the right way and enjoying it becomes really easy. If you want to use it to enjoy, find like-minded people, share your stuff with them and let go of your stress then use it for that purpose so you free yourself of any undue pressure. However, if your aim is something else, use Steemit from a different strategy. Your goal for the platform will help you come up with a lucrative strategy so you can achieve it.
Also, just be yourself. Whoever you are, just embrace your true-self and exhibit it. I have seen people in open relationships, people who love being naked, people who enjoy art, people who have strange fetishes find support and love here so if you have anything that holds you back from loving yourself, share it on Steemit and you’ll find love here. This is the exact reason I’m using a picture of minions here because these funny creatures are who they are and have embraced their strange uniqueness so you go ahead and do the same and love yourself!
