Decentralized Applications & Blockchain Utility
Hello Steemians!
One of the chief determinants of a cryptocurrency project’s “viability” is it’s “utility” and utility is often measured in terms of the number of transactions where the cryptocurrency is bought and sold, but also by looking at the number of applications or smart contracts being executed or used fir transactions on the blockchain. For most coin projects their “use case” is the application which will stimulate mass adoption of the coin because people find the application useful.
During my first year investing in cryptocurrency many coin projects I investigated had one or two applications. But Steem is different, it doesn’t have one or two applications, Steem has hundreds! I know this because there is a website dedicated to cataloguing all the applications on the Dteem blockchain. At the time I wrote this article there were 479 decentralized applications or DAPPS on the Steem Blockchain, according to this list.

Utility is prime characteristic of successful Blockchain. One of Ethereum’s characteristics which sets it apart from Litecoin and Bitcoin is the concept of the smart contract. As you can see Steem is has utility. It just needs to grow.
