I talked about how the main Steemit site is doing in an earlier post. Some commenters suggested that users may be on other sites. So let's have a look. For comparison Steemit.com gets 384,000 daily users and that ranks it 932nd in the world.
Busy.org
I did try Busy early on and I liked some of the features. It's really just out of habit that I use Steemit. Busy does look a bit more finished. It's got something of the Facebook look about it. Your profile page shows some extra stats that you might need add-ons to see otherwise. It doesn't seem to have the same sort of Replies tab. There's Activity that shows votes as other things, but you have to click through to see the actual text. I like seeing at least a preview so I know if it's likely to be spam.
The site is showing strong growth. Korea tops the countries ahead of the USA.
ChainBB
ChainBB is modelled like a traditional forum with sub-forums around tags. Not every tag is represented.
Traffic seems to have peaked around September last year and it's getting a few hundred visitors each day.
Zappl
Zappl is a micro-blogging service, much like Twitter and they really are trying to look like that site for now. I see a few people I follow using it. I have done Twitter and Identica in the past, but I'm more into longer blogs these days.
The service is fairly new, but is getting similar views to ChainBB and is on the rise.
DTube
DTube aims to be the Youtube of the blockchain. I'm seeing lots of videos posted there. It would help if you could view these directly on the Steemit site, but I suppose they also want traffic on their site. There are sometimes issues with playback and I've had problems uploading to it. Videos are hosted on IPFS that involves some cost and I think I read that they won't be there forever. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't have time to stay up to date on everything.
Traffic is very good and rising. It's doing better than Busy. I know a fair few Youtubers are moving over to earn from their videos and sometimes to escape censorship. They will bring followers with them. Germany ranks second behind the USA. It doesn't seem to be so big in Korea.
DSound
DSound is modelled on Soundcloud. Audio is a more niche media than video, but could still be big in the music and podcast worlds.
It's doing even better than I expected.
Utopian
Utopian focuses on project to develop apps, documentation and media. I looked at it a while back and it seems to be thriving.
It's another site that's doing better than I expected and is on the way up.
Dmania
Memes are not really my thing, but people love them and Dmania caters to that demand.
It's another site on the rise and showing good figures.
DLive
DLive offers streaming video, but I think it can also be used to archive them too. I've seen a few people using it and have sat in one one or two streams. The chat option creates comments on the post.
This is a very new site, but also showing rapid growth. Interesting to see Poland and Turkey high in the countries. Could this be down to just a few popular users?
Steepshot
I almost forgot this one. Steepshot is all about images. I don't use Instagram or other such sites. If I'm going to post images it will be in the context of a blog post, but such sites are big. This site looks very good and there are apps too.
It's another site getting into thousands of daily visitors.
Conclusions
This has been an interesting exercise for me. I didn't realise that some of these services were doing quite so well. It shows that Steem is far more than just a blogging platform. There really is something for everyone. Steemit is still the most used by far, but the others are catching up fast. I'd really like to see some branding that ties them all to Steem so that users realise there is a connection. What you cannot tell from these stats is how many of those users were logged in. Many may have come there via search engines or links. The site owners will have more insight.
Did I miss anything major?
Steem on!
