If you want to see what's going on with the development team you can look on Github. There are actually lots of projects listed there. There's steem for the blockchain, condenser is the web interface and then there are newer projects like yo, which is the new notifications system.
As I follow the projects I see the updates and I noticed @vandeberg has created a new set of issues for Hardfork 20. You can see the status of those here.
It doesn't look like development has started yet, but some of the issues have active discussion on how to proceed. Even though I've worked in software for decades I don't understand some of the discussion as it's using blockchain and Steem specific terms. Having met some of these developers at Steemfest I know they are smart people.
If you have opinions on these items then you can get involved, but be sure to keep it on topic. We don't want to distract the developers any more than necessary. The reason they don't post much is that they are busy making Steem better.
If you find any bugs with Steemit then you can report them, but be sure to check if something similar has already been reported. I reported a notification issue, but @timcliff pointed out it was a duplicate. I'll check more next time.
Steem on!
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars
