Over the last months I have had time to generally navigate through Steemit and get accustomed to its general style. There's a lot of good, I think, in this site, but it bears mentioning the less positive also- in hopes specifically that it can be ameliorated.
THE GOOD:
First and foremost is the legendarily un-moderated content of this site. For those of us who have ever been censored in any way elsewhere this is a breath of fresh air.
Second to that, the acceptance of political content. I can remember when Vidme attempted to challenge Youtube; I warned them not to abuse political users, which they subsequently did, and now they don't exist anymore. Thoughts that make you go HMMMM
Third, the community itself, which is active and growing. Growth is always a good thing. It's also a highly literate community with a lot of references to social topics, cryptocurrency, and such.
THE BAD:
There's really only one complaint I have about Steemit thus far which is that when attempting to upload material via the associated Dtube, it becomes a hassle, sometimes, because it can take literally a half hour to upload a video that is only in 720p and not that long. For people who make multiple videos a day this means we have to expend significant effort on Steemit and I feel that a lot of creators who would otherwise use this site regularly abandon it after a few days of slow uploads. I know a host of larger creators on other sites who use, for example, Bitchute or Pewtube, but do not have a Steemit account.
THE UGLY:
Again there's only one issue here; for less tech-literate individuals who are used to more simplistic sites, the rather opaque notion of steem dollars, blockchains, and so forth, is elusive. Even for myself, I admit, it's a bit much, to the point where I am probably ignoring some site functions in favor of merely uploading and sometimes interacting with content.
And so there you have it, a little summation of my experience thus far.
