Let's start connecting our classrooms around the globe.
I am a professor at Community College of Philadelphia (USA), and I am about to teach a newly revised Communication Studies course. The course is being offered online, and it will focus on online human communication. I am hoping (and dreaming) that I can get my students to interact in some fun and interesting ways here on Steemit and on Discord. If this sounds at all interesting to you, please read on.
Like the aurora borealis swirling around the globe, let's connect what we do as educators
Although my idea here is extremely ambitious, I am going to begin the experiment in a very simple way. My online course is only seven weeks (what we call Summer 1 at my college). As part of the course, I will require my students to view three films. They will be required to discuss the films on our class Discord channel and produce statements about how the films represent specific concepts and theories in the online textbook we will also be reading.
Where you come in
I have already linked about @alvinauh who teaches in Malaysia, and he is actively working to get his students on Steemit. We have connected on our Discord channel and will welcome students to introduce themselves there, create their own regional or campus channels, etc. We are hoping that we can encourage our mutual students to discuss the films and collaborate on steemit posts.
If you are a professor or college student, feel free to drop by the Steem4College Discord channel and say hello. If you want to link up a class, please drop me an email from your college account at cstrimel@ccp.edu so I can verify you are actually with a college or university. Also, follow #steem4college as that will be our new tag.
Thanks for checking this out, and I look forward to meeting you!
