Hi all, for a change, I'll post some revision for Spanish GCSE.
I have always found trying to memorize Spanish tenses a bit difficult, present tense is easy but as it gets deeper, it gets more complicated.
Present tense - Regular Verbs
-AR | -ER | -IR | Pronoun |
---|---|---|---|
-o | -o | -o | I |
-as | -es | -es | You |
-a | -e | -e | He/she/it |
-amos | -emos | -imos | We |
-áis | -éis | -ís | You (plural) |
-an | -en | -en | They |
To use these endings, here are some examples
AR verbs
Get a REGULAR verb that ends with AR, for example = Hablar
Using the endings from the table, the products should look like this:
-AR | Pronoun | Product example |
---|---|---|
-o | I | Hablo |
-as | You | Hablas |
-a | He/she/it | Habla |
-amos | We | Hablamos |
-áis | You (plural) | Habláis |
-an | They | Hablan |
Hablar means "to talk"
The next example will be for ER ending regular verbs, an example of an ER verb is Comer
-ER | Pronoun | Product example |
---|---|---|
-o | I | Como |
-es | You | Comes |
-e | He/she/it | Come |
-emos | We | Comemos |
-éis | You (plural) | Coméis |
-en | They | Comen |
Comer means "to eat"
This is the IR ending verbs, an example is the commonly used verb Vivir
-IR | Pronoun | Product example |
---|---|---|
-o | I | Vivo |
-es | You | Vives |
-e | He/she/it | Vive |
-imos | We | Vivimos |
-ís | You (plural) | Vivís |
-en | They | Viven |
The meaning of Vivir is "to live"
That's all for this post, if there are any queries please leave a comment below.
I know that in the middle section of most learner dictionaries for spanish there are tense tables there with the irregular verbs included. There are many irregular verbs so watch out.
Thanks and (soon) Happy New Year!
