Simple Addition Equations
In this post we will discuss addition equations. This concept gives some exposure of equations (equality) to kids in grade three. On Left Hand Side (LHS) some missing number is added to a given number to get the sum on the right hand side of the equal sign (known as right hand side RHS of the equation).
For example; 3 + ____ = 5 ; we can read it as 3 added to what make 5? Simple solution is to start counting from three and draw lines as counting forward to 5. Many kids can do this calculation in their head and I always reward such kids and encourage all of them to do such calculation in mind.
