Multiplying Decimals with 10, 100 and 1,000
We are starting 5th grade math with place value and multiplication of decimals (to thousandths) with 10, 100 and 1000. Kids need to remember that when we multiply a decimal by 10 it moves the digits ONE PLACE to the left. If we multiply a decimal by 100 then we move each digit TWO PLACES to the left.
The movement to the LEFT is as many Places as number of Zeroes with one i.e. for 10 we move One Place, for 100 we move two places and for 1,000 we move three places to the LEFT.
