The Philippine Stock Market is currently on its volatile stage given the recent elections and other erratic developments. PSEi keeps on swining within the 7,600 - 7,900 and it couldn't seem to go way past it. This means that my stock investments are currently stale. Some are even swimming in the red sea wherein my paper loss sits at more than 30%.
Then when I was re-thinking on how I can pull up my portfolio's performance, I suddenly remembered STEEM. Luckily, I still had my log-in details with me, and upon checking, I still have a couple of STEEM (through STEEMPOWER) left in this account. I checked how the value of STEEM has been over the last months, and the pattern of its movement makes it a viable option for an alternative investment.
I realized that although I can no longer commit my time in producing content for this community, I still can harness its power (and growth potential), by putting in more STEEM. Also, with the presence of vehicles such as as @smartsteem, I can achieve about 9~12% annual returns from my STEEM investments.
This is still way better than the 3% interest from savings offered by newcomer banks in the Philippines such as CIMB, as well as ING who is offering 2% for savings.
I also have a couple of traditional investments such as long term certificate of deposits (LTNCDs) which are giving me a range of 4~5% annual interest rate. Now, with the relative stability of STEEM and SBD, together with the expected leap of cryptocurrencies in the next few years, I'm putting more allotment in STEEM as an investment vehicle.
I'm writing this because my fellow Filipino Steemians may want to look beyond the "social media" feature of the community, and consider STEEM as an investment opportunity as well.
