I will not escalate, still no one will guess what and who it is about. Because the Roman emperors were darkness.
I want to show you the city of Nis. It was here that in 274 the future Roman Emperor Constantine I the Great was born.
The Serbian city of Nis is located quite close to Sofia - only 150 kilometers. A Russian visa to Serbia is not needed, so it’s easy and easy to go there, the main thing is to find free time - that’s why we all have a constant shortage.
In general, I once spent all my short holidays in Serbia and did not regret it at all - the country turned out to be interesting and completely unlike Bulgaria, as I expected. That is, on a cursory glance, Serbia and Bulgaria are similar, but in reality there are a lot of differences.
Niche surprised me with his "flatness" and low eminence. Unlike large Bulgarian cities, there are very few tall houses in it. The city is located in the valley of the Nišava River on several hills at a low altitude - only 195 meters.
Nis is the third largest city in Serbia, the main city of the Nishava region in the southeastern part of the country. About 313 thousand people live here.
Nis is famous for being the birthplace of two Roman emperors Constantine the Great and Constantius III.
10 kilometers from Nis there is a climatic spa resort where we rested - this resort is considered the most favorite vacation spot and treatment of Constantine the Great.
Nis is a very old city - it was founded by the Celts in the 3rd century BC.
The city has well-preserved Turkish fortress with buildings and a temple, on the territory of which a beautiful shady park, several monasteries and churches, a tower of skulls, as well as the old Roman city of Median are now divided.
My first surprise was the appearance of the local population. For some reason, I expected that they would look like Bulgarians, but they look like Rosiyans 😊 Light-skinned, fair-haired, fair-eyed people with golden, not black tan. Long-haired girls with a Slavic type of face. To such an extent that if it weren’t for the speech, I would decide that they are rosaries.
The second surprise is the price. I did not expect prices in Niche to be lower than in Sofia. However, we were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed eating in local restaurants. How much meat and wine it was!
Then I realized that low prices are due to the poverty of the region. They say that in Belgrade everything costs two to three times more expensive.
The third surprise is the heat! In August in Niš, it turns out, there is a terrible heat - all the days that we were there - the air temperature was 40C !! But Serbia has a temperate continental climate.
And the fourth surprise concerns Nish himself.
In Niš, as in any large European city, there is a central pedestrian street with restaurants and shops, it is called Obrenovicheva. This street surprised me that it is "two-story"!
That is, the trading part is underground, and on the surface there is only a promenade and a cafe.
It's hard to guess - we found out by chance, because we went down to the Serbian Drogeria Market - I wanted to compare prices. And from there we went into the underground gallery and realized what kind of glass domes were on the surface: these were windows and ventilation for the underground shopping gallery!
It also seemed funny that in the center of Nis it is difficult to find a restaurant, because there is a cafe with cakes on every corner. Cafes are sometimes very beautiful, but cakes and pastries are just lovely - they are so tasty that I only ate in Russia. Unfortunately, the Bulgarians in this case are not aces.
Niche deserves to devote a day or two to him - then it will be uninteresting, because it turns out that the city is not big and you want something else. But leaving Niš anywhere is quite simple - it is a transport center between Central Europe and Turkey with Greece. I know many Russians who visit Nis while on vacation in Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece. Precisely because the Russians do not need a visa to Serbia, and there is the Konstantin the Great International Airport in Niche, tickets are very affordable. So why not look at the place where the great emperor was born?
