This half dollar commemorates the California Pacific International Expo held in San Diego. This half dollar was minted for 2 years from 1935-1936. The 1935-S has a mintage of 70,000. PCGS graded 6,000 half dollars in MS65 condition, so BU coins are common. The obverse depicts the Greek goddess Athena. Athena is the goddess of War. Athena wears a Corinthian helmet and breastplate. Athena holds a Dory spear with her left arm. Athena also wields a shield. Athena's shield has the face of Medusa on it. Medusa was a monster who can turn people into stone by staring at them. The hero Perseus beheaded Medusa. Athena attached Medusa's head onto her shield. Thus, Athena's shield is her most powerful weapon. The reverse depicts the California Tower and the Chapel of St. Francis. I would like to thank @generation.easy for hosting this contest
