Engelhard carries the label as being the 'Gold Standard'. Quality and Purity is what they stood behind. Having manufacturing facilities all around the world. Operating during the late 1960s through late 1980s. Located in Canada and the USA. All the way out to London and Australia. What is so interesting about these locations? Well each of them had a unique style regarding the silver ingots they produced.
I believe a good starting point for me, is to provide images of different Engelhard ingots and explain how they relate to their country of origin. All photos provided through out my blog will be of bars I have owned and purchased through out my years of collecting.
A great reference site for this information - www.Allengelhard.com
Engelhard 25oz 1st Series Y9 Prefix Silver Ingot. Mintage <10
This 25oz class ingot is a true rarity. This Y9 prefix was recently discovered last year. Typically these low mintage ingots are seen with a partial or full X8 prefix. These bars where stamped with a rotary dial stamp. The prefix left on these bars were due to the rotary dial slipping on the end and leaving a slight impression of the letter and numbers in that position. Often times a result of a lazy employee. We have seen a Y9 prefix in the 10oz class but not in the 25oz class until last year.
Two full X8 prefix 25oz Engelhard bars sold in late 2016 for $1800.00 and $2200.00USD.
This bar was produced by one of the Engelhard facilities located in the USA. These types of 1st series ingots all look like a 'firecracker' exploded on the face right after it was poured. Believed to be a total of 60 ingots produced with X8 and Y9 prefix.
