NASA are eyeing up an asteroid that contains enough gold to make every single person on the planet billionaire's. Here is it, our future looking us in the face, big blue bitch it is.
They say it's worth $9.5 quadrillion being loaded with gold, platinum, iron and nickle so we should be expecting pay rises from work and bitcoin should hit $100 trillion by 2025. The put that into perspective the total world's economy is worth around $65 trillion. If someone figured out a way to bring this thing home, our worthless silver and gold stacks would be the least of our problems to say the least. Everything would collapse.
Currently located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, the asteroid is said to be made of solid metal which was most likely created by being the survivor of some super violent collisions as the solar system was forming. Nasa will be sending something up to take a look in the summer of 2022 and they plan to arrive by 2026. Some interesting shit, but a little more scary is private space mining companies are being set up and asteroid ownership was made legal in 2015. There are currently 2 space mining companies fighting for an asteroid worth around $5 trillion. Who's gonna do a 2 year each way commute to work every day to mine these things, that's not gonna work.
For real, i think this is all fake news. Think of the machinery required to perform mining on an something millions of miles away and the cost. The tech is not there yet and the trial and error process would take decades. but this is something to keep an eye on in maybe 20-40 years in my view.
