How do you store you silver stack?
(not where)
I think this answer vary's stacker to stacker as we all have our personal preference weather it be all neatly stored in caps in order of year then alphabetical order are all just piled into a banged up heavy duty box. I am not sure if i have wrote a post about this before but if i have, it would have been a long time ago. There's are lots of different types of ways you can safely store but i am going to be mainly talking about storing at home. I understand some stackers might pay for storage at a bullion bank are have it buried miles away from their homes but i think most of us have our stacks close by and within our homes. If someone decides to break into my house and steal my stack, they are welcome to it cause it's heavy and they'll not get far down the road with it. I only say that say that cause there are only 3 other members on steemit from Northern Ireland that would beable to steal it, lol. So what type of guy/gal are you? Caps, tubes, briefcases, books, treasure chest are even just laying around the hours.
Capsules
This is prob one of the most expensive ways to store your bullion as you end up with lots of extras you dont need and will never use but at the same time, some capsules make the coin look better like a rounded silver panda capsule. I have a whack of my stack in quadrum capsules which are square and come with some 15 year anti tarnish promise. I bought these because you can stack square capsules they are all the same size. If you prefer round capsules, there are tubes that be bought and they store 10-20 coins depending on the weight and thickness of each coin and there are silver panda trays that will store most 1oz stuff from the Perth mint. I have only ever bought a few round capsules, 1 for my 5oz libertad, some for queen beasts and a few for gold sov's but my general rule is if they arrive in capsules, they stay in capsules. If they dont, they go in quadrum capsules. Another plus with storing your bullion in capsules is that when you are reselling it, it's already in a safe capsule perfect for shipping. Fill tubes bang about and boxed stuff needs bubble wrapped, caps are ready to roll.
Tubes
This is i think depends on what sort of stacker you are, i would like that people that stack more for weight would store more in tubes as they would be bulk buying the same coin. Tubes are ok, it's what the mint will use most of the time and they are normally airlocked when closed proper. I have a few tubes but they are all of stuff that i bought because it was super cheap per oz and i have a few other tubes of brit's. I always add 5-10 of these per order and let them build in tubes as i dont mind them sitting naked ontop each other. I like tubes because they are best way to store alot of bullion in a smallest amount of space. If your are stacking for weight and buying the same coin in bulk, this i think it the best option.
Monster Boxes and Hard cases
So most of us will store our bullion in either caps are tubes but what do we store those in? This stacking thing aint no game and we are going down a level Inception style into the second layer of stack storage. FYI, 3rd layer is where to stash, but that for another day. I think the main to options on the table here are either mint monster boxes are hard briefcase style cases. Firstly monster are good cause they are perfect for tubes, very strong, stackable and the inside has all straight edges, no curves at all. I used to use monster boxes to store all my whole stack and spend hours putting in each piece of bullion into a perfect sized spot like play stack tetris. Monster boxes are deffo are strong and you can fit a decent amount into one, the only bad thing is they can not be locked and they are sometimes hard to pick up off a hard surface cause they go right down to the ground and you basically picking up 10-15kg by squeezing the box, lol. I love my monsters boxes and now use them for tubes and all my loose capsuled coins.
Next up is hard boxes. These come in many a shape and size depending on what you are looking to store, From what i have seen there, most use either use trays are have built in slots/dividers, come with a lock and make you feel like a boss when carrying it around. I have 2, 1 is is where i now keep all my quadrum capsules. It was made for 5cm flip cards so my quardum's fit perfectly and i think i can get almost 120 in there, it's a nice weight when full :) My other box is one that had trays in it, i chucked the trays to the bin because it has really thick foam on top and bottom and when i put all my boxed stuff in there, everything gets sandwiches between the foam when the case is close and nothing moves at all. The hard cases are ok, i'll not be buying any more because they are big for all the bullion to get into them but they would be a must for moving parts of your stack from one location to another.
Treasure Chest
The treasure chest is the calling card of the poured silver/old silver coinage stacker were dings and bangs are ok. To be honest i dont really what you say about this one as it sorta have a big fuck off bad ass looking treasure chest and piled it with bullion. I have a very small chest that have enough in it to just cover the bottom so i have a way to go with mine, i would love to see some pictures of filled treasure chest of any reading this has one.
Just laying about, in cupboards and stuff
Maybe your stack is not that big and your just getting started out. Under the mattress is more of a newbie thing when your stack is still small. I have seen new stackers use tuple wear containers, shoes boxes are even just laying loose in spots around the house. I have done all 3 and the very first storage box i used for my stack was a gift box like you'd buy from birthday card shop and it stayed in the living room under the coffee table. Things have changed but that happens the longer you stack and bigger your stack gets. I keep silver at my desk cause it lucky to see. I would not advice this but it's nice to have a little on show to remind you your an awesome stacker.
Round up
To each their own, I use all these methods above and they all carry there own purpose for different parts of my stack. Monsters box's hold tubes filled with low premium silver and loose capsules, briefcase 1 holds most my quardums, briefcase 2 holds all my boxed and Royal mint stuff, panda trays for Perth mint date runs, a few books/folders for different stuff and a small work in progress treasure chest for old coinage and poured stuff.
