It is called a Bulbous Bow and looks like this:
Usually it is hidden below the waterline.
This feature uses the physical effect of destructive interference.
The bulb creates a wave just half a wavelength ahead of the bow wave. These two waves interfere and cancel each other out. This reduces drag of the ship and thereby increases the efficiency.
