People's wisdom dictates that to be successful in life, it is enough to be ourselves. But will we succeed if we continue to insist on the same path? Grant Cardone, who made a fortune selling cars and today is a renowned international sales expert, does not think that way.
In an opinion piece published on CNBC, Grant Cardone explains that if he had to reveal the secret to his success, "he would say the secret is to become someone else". The millionaire says that 30 years ago he was broke and had problems with drugs. If he continued to "be himself", he would never have come out of the fullest misery.
"Of all the times you listen to a saying, with which the masses agree, think carefully about it", advocates Grant Cardone. "The next time someone says "be yourself" remember: if I did, I would still be in a small town of Lake Charles, Louisiana, living in a small brick house, and still addicted to drugs. What you should seek to do is to become someone else. Your true self".
And explains. "You do not need to copy others, but learn how to become someone else, because you need to become someone before you even begin to discover who you are. And your true self, you do not know yet. He or she has been educated and, in any case, this has resulted in misinformation. It's not your fault, even because schools do not teach you how to become the real you".
Grant Cardone states that by discovering your true self, you will find that you have bad habits that need to be replaced by good habits. How is this done? Imitating those you consider to be the most successful people these days. "That's why so many people have mentors and invest in coaches", explains the international specialist in sales.
"No matter how successful you become, you can almost always find someone even better. This is how I continue to reach my full potential, because becoming another person is a continuous path", he concludes.
