Coder Becomes Trucker
It took Nestor a week to fully decide to be involved in software for self-driving trucks. He read about the regulations in North America and the certification process. He spoke to his brothers and his parents, as well as to other software engineers that he trusted. And of course, he talked to Moana every day either in person, by phone or by message.
As most people he talked to were encouraging him in his project, he fully committed to it. And he realized that to fully understand trucking and self-driving, he needed to become a trucker. So, he started taking lessons at a Coast Mountain Driving School in Surrey and studied for the knowledge tests. He passed the knowledge tests the first time, but it took him two attempts in four months to pass the road tests. Finally, on July 11th 2025, Nestor became a fully licensed truck driver.
While studying and taking classes at the truck driving school, he continued to work for RG Core Technologies, and to have dates with Moana. He accompanied her several times on day trips, either in British Columbia or in Washington State.
After three months of courting, Moana moved into Nestor's house in June. She kept her apartment for another six months until she realized they were both fully committed to each other.
And in August, after Moana returned from her month in Tahiti, they started to take multiple days trips with her truck together, where the driver was Nestor, most of the time.
