Net Neutrality
Hello Substratum family! Last week there was a very important decision made that affects every internet user in the United States and every person who holds Substratum tokens at all.
Net Neutrality Repealed In the USA
On Thursday December 14th the FCC voted to repeal the Net Neutrality laws in the USA. We at Substratum have campaigned hard in favor of keeping Net Neutrality in place because we believe for the Internet to truly be free and fair all people must have equal access to all information. In fact that is one of our core values here at Substratum.
What Does This Mean?
It basically means that once these new regulations, or lack thereof, take effect there are no political protections requiring ISP’s to provide equal access to all content for all people. This enables them to offer a so called “internet fast lane”, for instance they could charge an additional $9.99 a month for you to receive a faster connection to Netflix or worse yet to be able to reach it AT ALL.
What Does This Mean for Substratum?
When we set out with our vision for Substratum we honestly believed that we would be needed much more at first overseas in countries like China where their content is heavily filtered and that is still true. What this means though is that our technological solution is EXACTLY what is needed to solve this problem in the United States which will make the political solution unnecessary.
It also means there will be MANY more people inside the United States who are willing to fire up a node to help solve the problem which will greatly aide in mainstream adoption.
Without a doubt Substratum is needed now more than EVER and we are humbled and privileged to answer the call.
