I read a post by KillerWot today which mentions how using the Hive blockchain to store information that can’t be censored or controlled is incredibly powerful, but also a bit inefficient. Content can sometimes be difficult to organize and find. This is true, but this is the nature of decentralized development, isn't it?. There are only small teams working on building solutions like INLEO, PeakD, VSC, SPK network, etc. So development can be a bit slower than what you can expect with company-owned solution with a huge budget. It does get better with time though. In the meantime, I’ve found that a good way to get the most out of the HIVE ecosystem is to use a combination of company-owned solutions with decentralized ones. Let's take a look at some of them on how I use them.
Notion to organize my blog posts
This one is the center of my strategy to organize my content creation work. I’m able to filter and visualize my content in different ways, for example if I’d like to get a timeline view, I can do that
This will give me a nice, broad overview of what I’ve done and what I plan to do in the coming quarter. Being able to look at what I've done in the past few weeks might motivate me to listen to a new podcast to get ideas, or perhaps to go back and edit a post because I ran into something insightful. A timeline view like this also lets me make sure I don't leave huge gaps in my content. I'm not a daily writer by any means, but I do try to publish something (written or video) at least a couple of times a week, so this view helps me make that happen.
If I’d like to take a look at my categories, I can use a table view like this one:
This way I can see what categories get the most engagement and perhaps take a look at what categories I’ve forgotten to write about in a while. I can also add columns to my table in case I'd like to add even more detail. For example, if I'd like to organize my posts by the rewards they've earned, the communities I've written in or any other category I'd like to add, I can do that. Very useful.
Both of these views in notion.so allow me to quickly access images I've created or used in the past and I can link them to new posts or I can link entire blog entries to reference current blog posts to give my readers a more complete experience if I'm talking about related subjects.
As I mentioned at the beginning, storing data in an immutable database is hugely important, but that data needs to be able to be found.
Social media calendar on Monday.com
And Finally, my social media posting calendar. Notion also has a calendar view, but my business uses monday.com. So I tend to use this tool since I can easily hand over content to my assistant who organizes my web2 channels like YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
The reason my posting calendar is useful, is because I'm not always blogging. I'm often times making first-person videos in my studio, sometimes I'm making animated videos and sometimes I need to plan other types of content that are not necessarily long-form blogs.
There are a bunch of different tools you can combine to make your content easier to find and help you organize your writing, recording and publishing schedules. The most important thing is that you're already in the process of changing your mindset to a value-for-value mentality and this puts you in a small and privileged minority, so congratulations! and happy blogging!
