After my most resent visit to Fitzroy Island, I thought id introduce my old mate Jet, a green sea turtle in the turtle rehab center based on the island I think the new facility officially opened back in 2013 there abouts due to increasing numbers in sick and injured turtles. Jet is making good progress and will be released into the wild after a recovery from floater syndrome,where eating nasties like plastic cause an obstruction in the gut trapping air between the shell and body making these guys float on the surface of the water unable to dive to the bottom of the ocean where all thear food is eventually causing them to starve. The guys at the Fitzroy island turtle rehab clinic are doing some good work so my hat is off to them and thear volunteers and they have one of the best sucess rates in Australia on getting these guys rehabilitated
Besides from that its a good spot to spend the day or the weekend, there is some good snorkeling ,a couple of good hikes to the lighthouse with beautiful views, or to the majestic nudey beach, have an ice cold beer at foxys bar or dine in at the restaurant if you are visiting or even living in Cairns its worth a trip and dont forget to drop into the Turtle rehab centre and say hi to my buddy Jet and his friends its for a gr8 cause
