Ah it's all on in Landrover world at the WildTrackDreaming ranch! We're in lockdown for a few days so there's a bit of a chance to get things done - and we need to, considering we have FOUR landrovers and not ONE on the road at the moment!
But first things first - check out these beautiful door cards from Exmoor Trim. Ready for adventure or what?
We had a brilliant expedition with Buttercup last week, driving into the forest not far from us. We'd had a week of rain so it was pretty muddy. Some of those tracks were super diff scraping so there was no chance we were heading down them! Must be fun for people who don't mind smashing up their cars though! We did go down some great tracks though that WERE a bit of a challenge.
Facing a very muddy hill, Jamie just went for it. He saw some trees we could winch off so thought he'd risk it. It was about time we used the winch anyway - we'd only used it to get OTHER people out! Fun and games - it really was good fun!
However, the following day we thought we'd go for a big forest walk and within 15 minutes we were pulling over because the overdrive was stuck. Jamie checked things and there was basically no oil in the transfer box. He felt a bit sick - had he ruined our $3k overdrive? Murray to the rescue - Murray's a landrover guy in town who does great accessories and has been in the Landie world for a long time with his company Rijidig Off Road. He's got a gorgeous 110 Perentie and came to the rescue with some oil and a sprayer set up to get the oil in. When we got home, Jamie checked things out and it HAD been fully DROPPING oil - never mind, he wanted to fix the gearbox and Hi/Lo range etc anyway, AND the handbrake which wasn't sticking basically as it was full of oil in there. He's ordered the parts and when he has time, he'll get onto fixing it.
Meanwhile, he has a gearbox job to do. It's for a posh restoration that a company in Geelong are doing, and it's been quite the mess. He DID find a hydroblasting company to clean the case as oh boy - what a mess! That's really helped time wise, but now he's hit another problem that'll need to be solved. Kinda lucky lockdown hit as that company is closed for a week too, so everything is delayed and he's been told 'no rush' - so, onto looking at Wally the 130 who's been a bit neglected!
Here he is taking off the head. We got the engine out and he'll be checking it out and replacing the headgasket, seals etc. There's a bit of a leak and whoever put it on before put a heap of sealant there really badly, so he wants to tidy it all up and clean it up before we put it back together again. At least we'll know it'll run properly. I mean, it WAS running - but we'd got to a point that if you are going to pull a car apart THAT much you may as well just do the lot.
Anyway, best get on - lots to do as usual! Bye for now!
With Love,
