"My mother was a clean freak. She always asked us to tidy up all our toys every time after we play. She kept the house neat and tidy. I used to believe that her hobby is cleaning. Our toilet used to be so shiny and smelled of lemon. Then one day, everything changed. She got tired of cleaning and does the dishes and sweeping and all. She didn't bother to ask us to tidy up anymore. The 30 cups we use in a day all piles up in the sink. She didn't help to flush our toilet anymore! The house stink of our urine! Breadcrumbs, cereal on the tables, toys everywhere- I hurt my feet walking on my lego on the floor! And that's how we end up in the Hoarders TV show. I believe we broke her and she needs professional help"
I have a 5-year-old rambunctious boy and a 3-year-old girl who loves everything princess. When both are at home, the house look like a tornado just had a wild unsupervised party.
Suddenly the sink is full to the brim.
Toys all over everywhere. I even found a Lego figurine in my bowl of Maggie few days ago. I kid you not. Turns out my daughter dropped it inside when I went to wash my hands. Super sleuth that one.
Let’s not mention my poor fridge. In one hour, it’s being open and shut so many times I swear the fridge groan in agony. I do not know why they keep doing that when nothing inside change the last time they saw it few minutes ago.
It used to bug me a lot because I breathed cleanliness and tidiness. But when I become a mom, I loosen up a bit. I have to so I won't go bonkers. I do teach the kids to tidy up and I make it like it’s part of their routine –Put all toys back to where it belongs after play, wash your hands before and after eating, brush teeth before bed and many more. This becomes a habit and makes my life so much easier (cheat mom 101) but my eyes still twitch when I see the mess they make… oy…
But as what my mom likes to say, "You will miss them at this age so savour it and cherish it" I would if they can stop turning my house into a disaster fun house...
