So to fill in those that do not know about my festivities last night, after the ice skating I went over with the kids to my friends Peter and Wendy and we had a braai.
This time we used a charcoal braai. I have mentioned these in a previous post about the craft of braai.
So unfortunately I did not snap up some pics of the food. The previous post did show that is was going to be cheese sausage and pork steak... which is exactly what Peter and Wendy got... great minds think alike! So we had this and a sweetcorn bake. Delicious!
After this as promised, I went out.
Well. I nearly did not. We got home at about 10:30PM and then I put the kids into bed. Then called a cab... and waited for an hour for it to arrive. They actually forgot about me. I do not drink and drive. Much safer to use a cab, however they nearly caused me not to go out.
When I did go out I walked around a bit to check the vibes. Buckleys was near to empty and I do not play pool so no interest. The rock lounge Banned I enjoy going to (metal music), however it was dead to and I did not see any of my usual friends there. I briefly passed Thirsty Turtle which is not a bad spot for a drink but it was filled to the brim with... kids. Like barely legal boys and girls and just seeing them already annoyed me because of their antics.
So then I ended up at Casa. There was a R30 cover charge and live band. It was a five person band: Vocalist, Guitarist, Bassist, Pianist and Drummer. These guys were playing some old covers but the people enjoyed it.
Actually, most of the people in this crowd were older. I was almost the youngest person there. However I was fine with this. I have always been a bit mature for my age so it was nice to be around people who were behaving themselves. Even while having fun and dancing, they have confidence and style and not stressed about petty crap.
So on to the beers!
Beer #1 - Amstel Lager
This one I drink for @negativer, who first suggested I do some posting about beers. Amstel was founded in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is a sophisticated beer with a smooth taste with a sharp aftertaste. (This is my opinion at least.)
Beer #2 - Windhoek Lager
This beer I raise for @valorforfreedom. Windhoek Lager is brewed in Namibia by NBL, founded in 1920 by Carl List and Hermann Ohlthaver. Windhoek being the capitol of Namibia, which has so many Germans there that they use German almost everywhere in everyday life and only use English for government purposes.
This beer was difficult to identify but I would say that the taste was a bit more sharp than the others. Just like Thorben ;)
Beer #3 - Hansa Pilsner
And this beer I raise for @sigrfolkr, my friend out in the dry and harsh Karoo. This beer is brewed by SA Breweries to be the smoothest, crispest beer they can... that is what I read anyway. From memory last night I can tell you that indeed Hansa is not bitter at all. I think this go well for the harsh climes that Nicolaas finds himself in and would do a good deal to refresh the body and the soul.
Ready for the Project
So now that I have had my bit of fun, I am ready to face the upcoming project with vigor and energy!
