The robot named Sophia that once creepily responded it wanted to "destroy all humans," will take its place as the first robot to be granted a Visa, Yahoo reported.
Sophia traveled to Azerbaijan as part of a world tour promoting robotics and met the country’s president, Ilham Aliyev, who greeted the droid.
Sophia's visit was organized by UN public service award winner ASAN (Azerbaijan Service and Assessment Network) xidmet, a government agency in Azerbaijan, according to Forbes.
Sophia was created by Hong Kong's Hanson Robotics and is no stranger to media attention with the android once expressing it wanted to "destroy the human race" when it was asked the direct question.
"Do you want to destroy the human race?’," the interviewer asked.
‘OK,’ Sophia said smiling creepily. "I will destroy all humans."
This is the beginning of The Terminator movie, as even scientists agree that machines like Sophia will begin to think for themselves in the near future and could be a threat to the human race.
The other big problem is that even if robots don’t overtake the human race, they will at least take over our jobs. Activist Post has continued to report about new developments like construction and farming robots, Angus and HRP-5P, and warehouse bots by Mujin and others being created to replace workers in the aforementioned industries.
Meanwhile, Activist Post documented the rise of Boston Dynamics Atlas and has continued to follow the development of the droid that was bullied by its creators, showing the bot climbing stairs.
This comes as security robots have invaded NYC equipped with five cameras including one that is thermal vision to observe their surroundings and are now patrolling the streets, while diplomatic robots (Pepper) are roaming around UK parliament floors for a committee hearing on artificial intelligence, Activist Post reported.
Robots are becoming more prevalent and relevant in society and, like it or not, the androids are here to stay. This technology will only exponentially increase as time passes, as Boston Dynamics has showcased over the years.
The technological evolution of robotics is well documented and accelerating at a quickening pace with new innovations being tested daily.
In May, Activist Post reported that University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and the Alan Turing Institute aimed to bring ‘game-changing’ benefits of artificial intelligence to NHS patients and replace some workers in the hospital.
Recently Activist Post also reported that even finance wasn’t safe from the robot apocalypse. China Construction Bank (CCB) opened a Shanghai branch run entirely by robots in a testing phase for finance with little to no human involvement.
Robots are beginning to take over every aspect of society. They are also headed for retail businesses delivering freight and eliminating truckers.
As Activist Post reported back in March, Uber had to halt nationwide testing of its A.I. vehicles following the death of a pedestrian in Arizona. And that was a car actually attended by a human backup operator.
Automation clearly isn’t a foolproof technology, and it can also be exploited by hackers for malicious purposes that could even include programming a bot to kill an individual.
There are plenty of problems with artificial intelligence, but perhaps the biggest is its unpredictable nature and the fact that in some cases machines are becoming sentient beings thinking for themselves.
This danger is highlighted by the comments made by Sophia. And who can forget MIT's serial killer artificial intelligence Norman.
Then there is Microsoft's Tay Artificial A.I. that was able to learn and respond on social media. We all saw how bad an idea that was when Microsoft had to shut it down after it started tweeting positive Nazi messages, which in my opinion was only hilarious because it created these images and messages itself after users trolled it and it developed a personality.
One such now-deceased famous scientist, Stephen Hawking, has previously warned “artificial intelligence could spell the end for the human race If we are not careful enough because they are too clever.” While Tesla founder Elon Musk has expressed "artificial intelligence is potentially more dangerous than nuclear weapons."
All those robot apocalypse movies are quickly catching up to humanity and look like our foreseeable future.
Now the very first robot has been granted a Visa after being granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia around the same time last year.
May God help us because Will Smith is missing in action to combat the rise of I Robot. We better pray that Sophia, Norman, Tay, and Atlas all created with the intent to learn as they interact with humans, don't get together to talk about their human creators, or the human race is as good as screwed.
