Hello friends, thank you once again for having me in this precious community, I am always excited to share content here as I learn from other people’s produced content also.
Today, I will be speaking about smart homes, even if we do not have a lot of sophisticated smart homes in my country because just a few persons have the ability to afford such luxury, very soon, we will have more homes that will use these smart technologies.
There have been controversies about smart homes, there are people who believe it is completely unnecessary to have a smart home, and there are people who also believe that it is a total waste of money. Hence, the need for me to explore some of the advantages and disadvantages of a smart home, with this, we should be able to get a reasonable conclusion about smart homes, identify if they are required at all or they are just a waste of time and money.
Benefits of a Smart Home.
• Extreme convenience: Having the ability to control almost everything in your home from the comfort of your bedroom, screams out ease to a great extent. Having your living room clean and your water for bath ready is a lot easier than I can explain.
• Security: Having a camera might not be anything new but having a smart camera that comes on whenever movement is detected and goes off automatically whenever there is no sign of movement, provides absolute home security. Some of these smart home devices even indicate the presence of leaking water or electrical appliances that may pose a danger to the home.
• Saving energy: Smart home appliances consume lesser energy and that is a good way to save money in this generation when the use of energy is becoming more expensive regularly. With a programmed automated device, appliances in your home turn off automatically when they are not in use.
• Easy to handle: Even kids can make use of these smart home appliances without having to call on their parents to help them do things. This makes it easier for parents to focus on other activities rather than running to their kids every minute. Kids are also known to make better smart choices by handling smart devices.
• Fits in for family special needs: Parents trying to keep watch over their children or elderly parents would be able to do it easily through the use of a smart device, this way they could get engaged with their jobs or other tasks until there is a distress alarm rather than sitting to watch all day.
Disadvantages of a Smart Home.
• Data exposure: There are related terms and conditions to the smart home appliances but how many people get to read through the terms and conditions of these appliances before getting them, with the use of some of these appliances, we risk giving out sensitive information’s about our homes to some of these big companies.
• System getting hacked: There is a big problem when hackers are able to get into your home smart appliances, everything about the safety of your home is definitely being risked at this point and any terrible thing could happen from there.
My opinion.
I would definitely love to get a smart home when I am able to afford one. There are just some very simple things that I would bear in mind while getting my appliances.
• I will ensure that the smart devices are obtained from a reputable company, I might not have the time to read through the terms and conditions but some customer feedback and reviews will help.
• I will regularly update my password.
• Whenever there is an update, I wouldn’t waste time updating my appliances.
