I had a look to few RepRapDiscount LCD Supports on Thingiverse, some of them are quiet nice but I was looking for one that can be easily moved in the direction of my eyes.
I came to this small design made of few parts:
- Back Plate.
- Front Plate.
- Dual Rotation Hinge.
Backplate
The backplate was long to check for assembly clearance and of course I made a few time costly mistakes. Anyway this part is ok now with a very tight clearance at the assembly of about 0.5mm.
About 5 to 7 hours the cost per failure:
There are few small blocks to ensure a good support of the PCB. The height is chosen to have the backplate and the pcb flush flat.
There is a small support for a M5 Hex Nut that will hold it to the Hinge. This nut is aligned with the rotating button such that when you turn and you push the LCD Support will not move, even if you can adjust both rotations very easily.
Frontplate
The frontplate is still a work in progress, I was a bit too optimistic for the height, but for testing it is ok. Nothing fancy on this part.
Dual Rotation Hinge
It is simply a half split hinge that bolts directly to the chassis and to the backplate. It holds a long M5 screw for the rotation on the Y axis. The part of the hinge that is bolt to the Backplate acts as rigid support. It is just a matter of tightening enough both screws to allow or not adjusting of the rotation on both Z and Y.
Future improvements
- Merge half of the hinge with the Backplate (less material).
- Tight fit assembly for the FrontPlate.
Forthcoming part
I am working on both End-Stops and the Bed, we will see what finish first.
