Intel introduced 64-bit EPIC technology for its processors. It also introduced MMX pentium for digital signal processing applications.
||1998||
:::.Intel Celeron.:::
Intel introduced the low end Celeron processors.
||1999||
:::.VIA-Tech.:::
The makers of X86 processors and X87 co-processors, Cyrix Corp and Centaur Technologies, were acquired by VIA-Tech.
||2000||
:::.Pentium-4.:::
with approximately 42 million transistors on board, Pentium-4 hit the market.
||2003||
:::.AMD-X86-64.:::
X86-64, a superset of X86 instruction set was released by AMD.
||2004||
:::.Dual Core Processor.:::
An X86 Dual Core processor was demonestrated by AMD.
||2005||
:::.Dual Core Processor.:::
First Intel Dual Core processor was shipped in this year. Apple decided to switch from PowerPCs to Intel X86 Family of processors for its Macintosh.
